999 fine silver or 925 sterling: which should you choose?

Draft article prepared by ABCsteps for review.

999 fine silver is 99.9 % pure. It has the whitest colour and the highest silver value per gram, but it is soft. That makes it ideal for coins, bars, pooja articles, diyas and keepsakes — pieces that are treasured more than they are worn hard.

925 sterling silver is 92.5 % silver, alloyed with a little copper for strength. It holds a shape, a clasp and a setting far better, so it is the right choice for rings, chains, bracelets and earrings you wear every day.

A simple rule

  • For the shrine, for gifting and for saving: 999.
  • For everyday wear: 925.

Both are real silver, and both tarnish slowly with air and skin. Every Arham piece states its grade, so you always know which one you are buying.
