A hallmark is the jeweller’s promise made checkable. On silver hallmarked under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) scheme, look for three things.
1. The BIS mark
A small triangle-shaped logo shows that the piece was tested at a BIS-recognised assaying and hallmarking centre.
2. The purity grade
A three-digit number gives the silver content in parts per thousand. The Indian standard for silver (IS 2112) recognises grades such as 999, 990, 970, 925, 900, 835 and 800. At Arham you will mostly see 999 (fine silver) and 925 (sterling).
3. The HUID
A six-character alphanumeric Hallmark Unique ID identifies the individual piece. We print it on the product page, on your invoice and on your certificate of purity.
Ask before you buy
If a mark is unclear or missing, ask. We will tell you the grade, the weight to a tenth of a gram and the HUID of any piece, online or at the Sardarpura showroom.
